Show interest, without accepting yet.
4.Ask
One specific number, with your reasons.

A counter-offer you can adapt
Thank you for the offer. I am excited about the role and the team.
Based on my experience with [skill] and the market range for this role in [city], I was hoping for [number]. Is there flexibility to get there?
What to say
Weak
- "What's the most you can pay?"
- "I need more because of my rent."
- Threatening with an offer you do not have
Strong
- "I was hoping for 28,000 AED a month."
- "My payments experience shortens the ramp-up."
- "If base is fixed, could we review housing or the start bonus?"
If you are moving countries, compare what is left after rent, schooling and travel. A bigger number in a pricier city can leave you with less.
